This double live CD compilation is from the original recording of the live benefit concert held for pop-culture icon, Cynthia Plaster Caster in 1992 at The Metro here in Chicago, IL. The benefit concert was put together in order to raise the necessary funds for Cynthia to fight back and regain her stolen collection of iconic penises. The Hard-Aid Package includes a t-shirt as well. Cynthia Plaster Caster, born Cynthia Albritton in 1947 in Chicago, IL is an artist and self-described "recovering groupie" who creates plaster casts of famous people's penises and breasts. She began her career in 1968 by casting penises of rock musicians, such as Eric Burdon (failed), Jello Biafra, Noel Redding, not to mention our very own MARTIN ATKINS, but perhaps most famously Jimi Hendrix. She later expanded her subjects to include filmmakers and other types of artists. By 2000 Cynthia started casting female artists' breasts such as Peaches and Karen O. Over the course of 30 years as a professional groupie, Cynthia has cast many famous artists and in the process created quite a name for herself in popular culture. After years of creating these casts, Cynthia had developed quite a collection. In order to safely store and protect the casts, Cynthia entrusted Herb Cohen to store the precious casts in his private vault. Instead of storing them, Cohen actually stole them. Fortunately, Cynthia fought back in court and eventually won them back. You can read more about this on Cynthia's website. Her trusty musician friends banded together and performed a benefit concert for Cynthia to raise money for court costs, and as a result Hard-Aid was born. The Hard-Aid CD features tracks from Jon Langford throwing down a smattering of tracks from his (even in 92) very varied history - from The Three Johns to The Mekons. The bizarre performance by En Esch was, we think, with members of Velvet Acid Christ and had En Esch emerging slowly from a plastic trash bag. The Pigface tracks feature the late William Tucker, En Esch, Chris Connelly and, of course, Martin Atkins amongst many others! Interestingly enough, Cynthia's notorious casting of the infamous Jimi Hendrix, took place right here in Chicago! She and fellow caster at the time, Dianne, cast Jimi at the Conrad Hilton Hotel in room 1628.
